Chaque année, des milliers de femmes en Afrique de l'Ouest subissent des violences conjugales, familiales ou sociales, souvent dans l'isolement et le silence. Trouver un lieu sûr pour se protéger, se reconstruire et repartir sur de nouvelles bases reste un défi majeur. Au Bénin, c'est précisément ce vide que Ya Tchégbo a choisi de combler.
Une association née d'un engagement fort
Ya Tchégbo est une association franco-béninoise fondée en 2016 à l'initiative de Karine Bonnifait, entourée d'une équipe de bénévoles engagé·e·s. Reconnue officiellement au Bénin depuis 2017, l'association s'est donné pour vocation d'accueillir, protéger et accompagner les femmes victimes de violences, ainsi que leurs enfants, afin de favoriser leur reconstruction et leur réinsertion sociale et professionnelle durable.
Que signifie « Ya Tchégbo » ?
Le nom de l'association tire son origine du fon, une langue parlée au Bénin. « Ya Tchégbo » signifie littéralement « mes souffrances sont passées ». Une phrase choisie comme un symbole : celui du passage de la douleur vers la reconstruction, de la vulnérabilité vers l'autonomie retrouvée.
Notre mission : accueillir, protéger, accompagner
Face aux violences faites aux femmes, la mise en sécurité constitue souvent la première étape indispensable d'un parcours de reconstruction. C'est pourquoi Ya Tchégbo articule son action autour de trois piliers :
- Accueillir les femmes adultes victimes de violences ainsi que leurs enfants, sans jugement et dans le respect de leur parcours.
- Protéger grâce à un hébergement sécurisé, offrant un cadre stable pour se mettre à l'abri du danger.
- Accompagner globalement chaque femme vers la reconstruction, la réinsertion sociale et professionnelle, et l'autonomisation durable.
Un accompagnement complet, en lien avec les structures partenaires
En complémentarité avec les dispositifs existants et en lien avec les structures partenaires, Ya Tchégbo accompagne chaque femme dans toutes les étapes de son parcours :
- Soutien psychologique pour traiter les traumatismes liés aux violences subies.
- Accompagnement socio-éducatif pour reconstruire des repères stables au quotidien.
- Accès aux droits pour faire valoir sa situation et se protéger durablement.
- Suivi médical pour prendre soin de sa santé et de celle de ses enfants.
- Insertion professionnelle pour retrouver progressivement son indépendance financière.
L'objectif : permettre à chaque femme accueillie de retrouver progressivement son autonomie et de construire un projet de vie durable.
Un besoin longtemps resté sans réponse au Bénin
Au Bénin, les femmes adultes victimes de violences ont longtemps manqué d'une solution d'hébergement spécialisée leur permettant de se protéger et d'entamer un processus de réinsertion. Ya Tchégbo répond à ce besoin essentiel en leur offrant un espace sécurisé, un accompagnement adapté à chaque situation et un cadre propice à l'autonomisation.

A nonprofit born from a strong commitment
Ya Tchégbo is a French-Beninese nonprofit founded in 2016 on the initiative of Karine Bonnifait, surrounded by a team of dedicated volunteers. Officially recognized in Benin since 2017, the organization's mission is to welcome, protect and support women survivors of violence, along with their children, to foster their lasting recovery and social and professional reintegration.
What does "Ya Tchégbo" mean?
The organization's name comes from Fon, a language spoken in Benin. "Ya Tchégbo" literally means "my suffering is over". A phrase chosen as a symbol: the passage from pain to reconstruction, from vulnerability to renewed independence.
Our mission: welcome, protect, support
In the face of violence against women, securing safety is often the essential first step of the journey to recovery. That's why Ya Tchégbo builds its work around three pillars:
- Welcoming adult women survivors of violence and their children, without judgment and with respect for their journey.
- Protecting them through secure housing, providing a stable setting to escape danger.
- Supporting each woman comprehensively toward recovery, social and professional reintegration, and lasting empowerment.
Comprehensive support, in partnership with allied organizations
Working alongside existing services and in partnership with allied organizations, Ya Tchégbo supports each woman through every stage of her journey:
- Psychological support to address trauma from the violence suffered.
- Socio-educational support to rebuild stable daily routines.
- Access to legal rights to assert one's situation and gain lasting protection.
- Medical follow-up to care for her health and that of her children.
- Professional integration to gradually regain financial independence.
The goal: to help every woman welcomed regain her independence step by step and build a lasting life plan.
A need long left unanswered in Benin
In Benin, adult women survivors of violence long lacked a specialized housing solution that would allow them to protect themselves and begin the reintegration process. Ya Tchégbo answers this essential need by offering them a secure space, support tailored to each situation, and an environment conducive to empowerment.
